Free game development suite Project Anarchy released
Havok has released Project Anarchy, a suite for developing mobile 3D games. According to the announcement, the suite includes Havok's Vision Engine and access to a variety of animation, AI and physics tools that have already been used in games like Halo, Skyrim and Assassin's Creed. An extensible C++ architecture, Lua debugging and customisable samples and tutorials make the package even more interesting.
Project Anarchy can be used for free to develop games for iOS, Android and Tizen that can even be commercially distributed without additional charges. There are some conditions, though, as explained in the standard package details: there must be a Project Anarchy splash screen on launch, and Havok can require co-marketing if it so chooses. If a game is developed for a platform that supports x86, like Android, an x86-compatible version must also be built before the game is uploaded to the app store. Havok also offers additional services like professional support and the opportunity to ship games on platforms like Windows Phone and Xbox360; pricing information is available on request.
To make it easier to start developing with Project Anarchy, a website is available for members of the community to help each other and access upgrades, documentation, practice material and video tutorials. The project's FAQs provide more information on how the suite can be used and the conditions that need to be agreed to. Installers for downloading the beta versions of the Windows and Mac OS X packages are available on the project's download page, although there still seem to be some problems with the Mac OS X version.
