SLES 11 SP3 brings Secure Boot support to the enterprise

SUSE has released the third update for its Linux distribution aimed at enterprise customers. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11 Service Pack 3 improves NFS access over IPv6 and Btrfs enhancements bring quota support and better performance. Updated LVM packages bring optimised shared storage capabilities and new drivers increase the performance for 8G and 16G fibre channel adapters, high speed Ethernet and Fiber Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) connections.

The company also highlights the security features of the updated release, pointing out that SLES 11 SP3 is the "first enterprise Linux to integrate and enable the secure boot mechanism of the Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI)," if the user wishes to use it. Since the release of Service Pack 2, SLES 11 now also conforms to the EAL4+ Common Criteria certification and the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 as certified by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3 is available as part of SUSE's subscription service and a 60-day evaluation version can be downloaded from the SUSE web site. Images for 32- and 64-bit x86 systems as well as Itanium and IBM POWER and System z architectures are provided; a download for Amazon's EC2 cloud platform is also available.
