Linux Kernel 3.8 Tracking

• Linux 3.8's features staked out
  With the first pre-release, it is now confirmed that Linux 3.8 will include the F2FS filesystem, a graphics driver for NVIDIA Tegra, and foundations for balanced process placement in NUMA systems, and that support for Intel 386 chips has been dropped.

• Kernel Log - Coming in 3.8 (Part 1): Filesystems & storage
  Linux now supports F2fs, a filesystem that is specially designed for storage media with flash chips. The developers say that Btrfs is now faster to complete certain tasks and that Ext4 is more efficient when handling small files.

• Kernel Log: Coming in 3.8 (Part 2) - Infrastructure
  Users not in possession of root privileges will in future be able to set up containers in which to run software which requires them. Linux 3.8 will, under certain circumstances, use less memory and will include improvements for NUMA systems. Support for Intel's 386 chips has been dropped.

• Kernel Log: Coming in 3.8 (Part 3) – Drivers
  The Linux kernel now includes everything that is needed to use 3D acceleration with all GeForce graphics chips. Drivers have also been added for a Wireless Gigabit chip and a PCIe WLAN chip from Realtek.
