30 bindings for openHAB 1.2

openHAB lead developer Kai Kreuzer has now released openHAB 1.2, a little under 9 months after the release of version 1.0. The open Home Automation Bus is a platform that has been created to simplify digital remote control of electronic and computerised devices in the home. In contrast to the often high prices charged for closed commercial home automation products, openHAB is open source and licensed under GPLv3.

As the "bus" in its name suggests, it is possible to bind devices together through the bus but this requires developers willing to design the required bindings for devices. Where version 1.0 boasted 14 bindings, the new version now has 30 available. The release announcement specifically notes bindings for the HomeMatic home control system, the Philips Hue lighting system, the DMX lighting system and interactive plant care assistant Koubachi. Google's Play Store also has a new Android client for openHAB, which supports new runtime features such as the Color Picker Widget and NFC.
