Airtime 2.3 goes local to celebrate World Radio Day

To celebrate UNESCO's World Radio Day on 13 February, Sourcefabric has released version 2.3 of its open source radio software Airtime. The new version has been translated into 11 languages and introduces an option for users to create their own translations of the user interface.

The purpose of World Radio Day is to raise awareness of the importance of the medium of radio and to improve communication and networking among broadcasters. Airtime fits this theme very well, as it enables users to run a complete internet radio station from a web interface connected to a server backend. Airtime can manage music playlists and schedule programmes, including callouts to reporters in the field, complete with bumpers and automatic fades.

Other improvements in Airtime 2.3 include statistics on stream listeners for Icecast and SHOUTcast streams and the ability to set cue-points. The replay gain function has also been improved. A complete list of the changes is available in the change log for Airtime 2.3.x on the Sourcefabric wiki.

The GPLv3-licensed Airtime 2.3 is available as packages for Ubuntu and Debian and in source code form for other Linux distributions from the Sourcefabric web site and the project's GitHub repository. The company also offers a hosted Pro version of the software for a monthly fee.
