Android 2.3.6 arrives for the Nexus S

Source: Google Google has released version 2.3.6 of its Android mobile operating system. According to a post on the Google Mobile Help forum by Community Manager Paul Wilcox, the update to the Android 2.3.x branch known as "Gingerbread" addresses issues affecting Voice Search on Nexus S phones; other changes and improvements have not been detailed.

The update isn't without its problems though. According to initial feedback from users who have already installed Android 2.3.6, the update has, in some cases, made the Voice Search bug "worse than before" and has broken the built-in tethering functionality. Users are reporting that, when enabling Wi-Fi and USB tethering, the 3G connection is dropped by the phone until tethering is disabled.

The Android 2.3.6 update is currently being rolled out to Nexus S phones "over-the-air" (OTA). Though Wilcox notes that, as with previous updates, "it will take a few days to send to everyone". A post on the xda-developers forum provides instructions for early adopters who wish download the update as a zip file and manually update their Nexus S phones. At the time of writing, an official release announcement has yet to be made on the Google Mobile Blog.
