Apache ACE makes it to top level
The Apache Software Foundation has announced that the Apache ACE project, which has been developing a software distribution framework, has graduated to the Foundation's Top Level project status. ACE arrived in the Apache incubator in April 2009 following a contribution of code by Luminis. Projects at Apache stay in incubation as they mature and adapt to the "Apache Way" of governance, transparency and meritocracy.
ACE is an OSGi-based system which lets developers deploy software components, configuration data and their dependencies to target systems and get feedback on the deployment. The system keeps a full history of what has been setup, where and when.
The developers believe it will be of use in creating automated development environments and QA/testing/staging/production environments. ACE includes a server to coordinate the system and management agents that can be installed into any OSGi framework on target systems. It is configured through a web browser connected to the server while the ACE agents poll the server to identify themselves and receive updates.
At the time of writing, the ace.apache.org site is somewhat incomplete, but further details and downloads of the Apache 2 licensed software are available there.
