Apache Camel updates with Amazon cloud service support

The developers of Apache Camel have announced version 2.8.0 which includes support for working with Amazon's S3 storage (AWS-S3) and SNS notification (AWS-SNS) services. Camel, the open source enterprise integration framework designed to facilitate bringing together the numerous services of a modern enterprise, also has new connections for HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System) and asynchronous HTTP with the AHC component allowing Camel endpoints to call external HTTP or HTTPS servers.

Camel allows developers to implement Enterprise Integration patterns that can route messages over channels between different systems. It can be configured from Java, Scala or through Spring-based XML configuration files. It supports HTTP, ActiveMQ, JMS and others as "Transports" for messages, but abstracts them enough that developers can focus on the "Components" which form the actual integration. It is the basis for products such as Talend Integration Factory. Camel recently celebrated its fourth birthday; it originated as a subproject of the Apache ActiveMQ project in 2007, becoming an Apache top level project in 2009.

The Apache Camel 2.8.0 release also sees 422 issues resolved, support for JBoss 6 added, and improvements to the Java DSL for configuration. The changes are detailed in the release notes. Apache Camel is available to download as source or binary forms for Windows or Unix/Linux/cygwin systems. It is also available via Maven 2 and is licensed under the Apache Licence 2.0.
