Apache CouchDB 0.11.0 loses the alpha/beta tag

Apache CouchDB, one of the representatives of the NoSQL database movement, has reached version 0.11.0, the first version to no longer carry the alpha or beta tag. Even at this early stage the Erlang based key/value document oriented database has already found itself in production use and incorporated into operating systems such as Ubuntu to power the Ubuntu One service. The new version, a "feature freeze" release in preparation for CouchDB 1.0, fixes a number of bugs and adds support for creating windows installers, "raw" binary collation for faster views, better attachment support and improvements in replication.

CouchDB offers a key/value data store as an alternative to traditional relational databases. The values in CouchDB's case can be simple data types or more complex objects such as ordered lists. CouchDB nodes offer a REST API which can exchange data as JSON objects. Nodes can be used in a MapReduce style to distribute work over a number of nodes.
