Outercurve Foundation logo Jim Jagielski has been announced as the new president of the Outercurve Foundation's board of directors. The open source organisation, which was originally launched as the CodePlex Foundation before changing its name, was founded as the result of a 2009 Microsoft initiative. The organisation's stated aim is to enable the exchange of code and understanding between commercial software companies and open source communities. The foundation now oversees over 25 software projects.

Jagielski made a name for himself as a promoter of open source software and was one of the co-founders of the Apache Software Foundation. He currently works for Red Hat as a consulting software engineer; previous employers include open source companies Zend Technologies and SpringSource.

The open source pioneer has been on the Outercurve Foundation's board of directors since March 2010 as Board Secretary. He is taking over the position of Board President from Apigee's Sam Ramji, who presided over the board for three years and is taking over as Board Secretary.
