Bodhi Linux 2.0.0 stable release arrives - Update

Alongside the launch of a new web site, the developers at the Bodhi Linux project have published the second major release of their minimal Linux distribution with an Enlightenment-based desktop. As previously described by lead developer Jeff Hoogland, the goal of version 2.0 of Bodhi Linux was not to "introduce ground breaking new features" to the distribution, but rather to smoothly transition to a new version of its underlying operating system.

Bodhi Linux 2.0 with the Desktop profile running the Midori browser and the Terminology terminal emulator Bodhi Linux 2.0 incorporates various changes and new features from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin", upon which it is based, and is the project's first version to be available for both 32- and 64-bit systems. The stable 2.0 release includes the 3.2 Linux kernel and the PCManFM file manager as well as the current version of the lightweight Midori web browser. The developers have also added the brand new Terminology terminal emulator.

When first booting the LiveCD, users can select one of one of seven profiles including "Bare" for advanced users who want to customise their Enlightenment configuration, a "Compositing" profile that includes a desktop setup with "flashy effects", a basic "Desktop" setup suitable for most users, and a "Fancy" one described as an alternative setup with a "more artistic layout". Laptop/Netbook, Tablet, and Tiling profiles are also available. After choosing a profile, users can select one of several themes to further customise their experience.

Update 31-07-12: Following feedback from users, developer Jeff Hoogland has announced the release of version 2.0.1 of Bodhi Linux. The developer says that the update addresses a number of important bugs, "some of which need to be dealt with right away (not two months from now when our next scheduled update release is set to come out)". These changes include improvements to wireless support, restoring missing ACPI scripts to enable suspending to work and support for booting the distribution image via GRUB2.
