Calibre ebook manager converts DOCX documents

At least converting the sample .docx file works very well

The just-released version 0.9.34 of the open source ebook management software Calibre is the first release of the program to be able to convert DOCX, the format that has been used for Microsoft Word documents since Word and Office 2007. The converter supports lists, tables, images, text formatting, footnotes, endnotes, and drop capitals at the beginning of text blocks. The Calibre developers have provided a sample file to demonstrate these capabilities. However, they point out that the code is still very new and may contain bugs.

Also new is a driver for the Kobo reader's recently released firmware version 2.6.1. In Calibre's ebook preview, users can now navigate back and forward via the Alt+Left and Alt+Right keyboard shortcuts. Right-clicking on the author's name in Book Details directly allows users to manage books by that author. All new features in Calibre 0.9.34 are listed in the change log.

Calibre is available to install from the standard package repositories in most Linux distributions. The latest versions for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows can be downloaded from the project's web site.
