Canonical, Dell bring Ubuntu laptops to 220 Chinese retail stores

Source: Canonical Canonical and Dell have announced the launch of a retail programme in which Dell machines with Ubuntu pre-loaded on them will be sold in Chinese retail stores. In a post on the Canonical Blog, Global Alliances Director Mark Murphy confirms that the new programme will initially roll out to 220 retail locations.

Each of the stores will have branded marketing materials and offer a number of Ubuntu-powered Dell computers, though specific models are not mentioned. Murphy says that in-store staff were trained on Ubuntu by the Canonical teams in Beijing and Shanghai so that they can relay "the benefits and advantages of Ubuntu to consumers".

Dell has offered Ubuntu-based systems in an number of countries, including the US and UK, through its online stores for some time now. However, the company's dedicated Ubuntu pages are often out of date or, in some cases, have no products with Ubuntu listed.
