Mehrdad Momeny, the developer of the KDE microblogging client Choqok, has announced that he plans to hand development of the application over to the community. Momeny had previously apologised for not finding a maintainer to take over the project after admitting that personal circumstances did not leave him enough time and energy to continue development.

Momeny explained that turning his hobby of software development into a full-time job had caused him to take up new hobbies in his free time and that he was therefore looking for someone to replace him as maintainer of the project. According to his latest blog post, that request has yielded results and the developer says he has now asked the KDE project to set up a mailing list so that the new contributors can coordinate future development on the project.

One of the new contributors is already working on making the client compatible with Twitter's API again, as the client used the service's API version 1.0, which was deprecated yesterday. This caused the client to break and it will be unusable with Twitter until this issue is resolved.

Momeny says he will keep maintaining the project for the time being until a permanent replacement has been found and Choqok has fully transitioned to become a community-maintained project.
