Desura games client open sourced as Desurium

Source: Desura The developers behind the Desura independent game platform have announced that they have made their game distribution client available as open source. According to Desura developer "lodle", the aim of the open source edition, known as "Desurium", is to allow members of the community to address bugs faster and help implement new features. This should benefit all users, he noted.

Desura is similar to Valve's popular Steam game distribution platform and offers a number of free and paid-for titles, including first person shooter (FPS) Alien Arena (free) and indie puzzle game World of Goo (£6.99). The digital distribution service currently supports both Windows and Linux; a Mac OS X client is currently in the works.

Source code for Desurium is hosted on GitHub and licensed under the GPLv3. Artwork and other assets are still owned by the company; the source for the Desura server will remain closed source.
