DragonFly BSD 2.2 released

DragonFly BSD 2.2 has been released, with the announcement that the HAMMER filesystem, added in July 2008, is now considered production ready. HAMMER brings features such as instant crash recovery, large file system and multi volume support (up to 4096TB), integrity checking, history and snapshots, to the BSD release.

Other enhancements in the 2.2 release include installer support for installing onto a HAMMER file system and the ability to boot from a HAMMER only disk. Hardware support has been improved, with ACPI support for IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads and Asus Laptops, support for more Ethernet controllers and more Intel chip-set support.

Distribution of DragonFly BSD 2.2 has been updated, with the operating system now being available as a DVD ISO image with operational X environment, as well as the bare bones CD ISO image and bootable USB memory stick image.

DragonFly BSD is a fork of FreeBSD 4.x, which has been developed as a "logical continuation" after differences of opinion with the FreeBSD team over how to move forward. Although on different paths of development, the DragonFly and Free BSD teams cooperate, as can be noted from the release notes, where many fixes are marked "From FreeBSD".
