Engine Yard launches JRuby support service

Engine Yard have announced the launch of the first developer support service for JRuby, the Ruby implementation which runs on the Java virtual machine. In the summer of 2009, the JRuby developers left Sun and moved to Engine yard to continue development there. Engine Yard, provide commercial hosting for Ruby on Rails applications.

According to Engine Yard, developers are between two and five time more productive using JRuby as it leverage's existing experience with Java libraries and servers and easily integrates with existing Java code. Engine Yard offer a technical paper which goes into more detail.

The JRuby support service will offer access to the JRuby experts at Engine Yard, available in 12 month terms, with prices starting at $2,000 per month. It will give developers access to advice, trouble shooting assistance and prioritisation of bug fixes. Support covers JRuby running on Sun's JDK 5/6, OpenJDK 6 and the most recent versions of IBM and Oracle JVMs, in conjunction with Glassfish, Tomcat or Jetty and on Windows, Mac OS X or Linux.
