Etherpad Foundation logo The home of the Etherpad Lite collaborative editor, the Etherpad Foundation, has announced the latest version of the editor, with support for the latest Node.js 0.8 release server framework. Etherpad Lite lets users embed a collaborative rich text editor in their web pages and also supports plugins for styling, twitter integration, linking of documents and even video conferencing.

The 1.1.1 release of Etherpad Lite also includes enhancements that make its recently introduced plugin architecture easier to manage – it no longer requires a server restart. Other changes include better Windows support, Postgres support, better disconnect handling and numerous bug fixes.

The Foundation also outlined its future goals in the announcement; it plans to create a robust test framework for the editor, migrate legacy Etherpad users to Etherpad Lite, improve language translation support and integrate with more CMS systems (beyond the current support for Moodle, Elgg and MediaWiki). The group now has a bug master (Marcel Kehr), new contributors with more control of the project's repository, and support from organisations such as Berkley, MIT and Mozilla, who all run Etherpad. The Foundation specifically thanked a number of contributors for 1.1.1 saying "without their and others hard work we would be months behind on our release schedule".

Etherpad Lite 1.1.1 is available for Linux, Unix, Mac and Windows from the Foundation's download page. The source code for the Apache 2.0 licensed editor is available from the project's GitHub repository.
