Evolution contacts integration for Thunderbird
The Mozilla Labs developers have announced the release of a new add-on called "EDS Contacts Integration for Thunderbird". The experimental add-on allows users running Ubuntu to read and edit address book contacts from the Evolution Data Server (EDS) from within Thunderbird. These include contacts from Ubuntu One, Google Contacts and local address books through GNOME Evolution.
Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot", the next major release of Canonical's popular Linux distribution, is currently in development and may include Thunderbird as its default email client. Recent alpha versions of 11.10 have seen Mozilla's Thunderbird 5.0 replace Evolution, though only as a provisional feature; with the latest alpha from earlier this month, Thunderbird is now integrated with the launcher.
More details about EDS Contacts Integration for Thunderbird, including release notes and a demonstration video, can be found on the project's web page. Users testing the add-on are encouraged to provide feedback on the Mozilla-labs Google Group. Hosted on Launchpad, EDS Contacts Integration for Thunderbird is licensed under the MPL.
