The Fedora Project has, yet again, postponed the release of Fedora 18. The next version of the distribution is now set to be released on 15 January instead of next Tuesday, 8 January. The developers want to use the time to do more work on blocker bugs that still exist in the distribution. Most other components of Fedora 18 have been frozen for days to ensure that no further bugs are introduced before the release.

In the discussions around this further slip of the schedule, the developers struggled to decide whether the release should go ahead or be postponed again – this suggests that this latest delay might be the last. If Fedora 18 is released on 15 January, the release will have slipped by a total of 70 days. The main reason for the continued delays, which even for the Fedora Project are of unusual magnitude, is problems with the Anaconda installer and the major rewrite it received during the development of Fedora 18.
