First VirtualBox 4.2 update has Linux 3.7 fixes

Just over one month after VirtualBox 4.2 arrived, Oracle has released the first update to its open source desktop virtualisation system, which should improve its overall stability and fix various regressions. Version 4.2.2 of VirtualBox includes fixes for the recent Linux 3.7-rc1 kernel (both for Linux hosts and guests) and addresses a problem that stopped virtual machines (VMs) from booting under Mac OS X 10.8.2.

Guest Additions for Linux now include support for X Server 1.13 and correct a problem that caused X Server to hang when restarted with old guests. VirtualBox's GUI has been updated to restore missing tooltip functionality and address a bug that, when first creating a VM, prevented users from changing settings. Other changes include updates to Windows Guest Additions to correct a screen resize issue, and fixes for Solaris hosts. Several bugs that caused the application to crash were also fixed.

A full list of updates and fixes can be found in the change log. Version 4.2.2 of VirtualBox supports Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and Solaris hosts, and can be downloaded from the project's site. Source code and binaries for VirtualBox are distributed under the terms of the GPLv2; the Extension Pack, which adds support for USB 2.0 and remote boot, can be downloaded under a Personal Use and Evaluation (PUEL) licence.
