The first official release of the "Eclipse Code Recommenders" project is now available at the Eclipse Foundation. Launched by Technische Universität Darmstadt, as part of their "IDE 2.0" research, the project plans to offer an "intelligent" code prediction feature for the Eclipse development environment that suggests input based on other users' experiences. The project currently supports Eclipse APIs such as JFace, SWT, JDT and Workbench, and plans to add further frameworks in later releases.

The now released version 0.5 of Eclipse Code Recommenders offers completely new name spaces for the project's features and plug-ins. Users must, therefore, uninstall any previous versions and then install version 0.5 from scratch. Another new aspect is that Code Recommenders now analyses all compilation units on the fly whenever the code completion feature is triggered. The programmers say that this allows developers to use Code Recommenders in their projects without having to modify the projects' configuration files.

The project now uses the Eclipse Java Development Tools as its primary analytical tool for code completion. Previous versions' analyses were based on the T. J.Watson Libraries for Analysis (WALA); however, the latter will continue to be used in sophisticated code analysis and data exports. The developers have summarised further changes in their announcement, where they also provide a brief insight into the project's future development plans.
