GTK logo The GTK+ Project team have released version 2.16.0 of GTK+, which includes some new functionality and several changes. GTK+ (GNU Image Manipulation Program Toolkit +), part of the GNU Project, was originally developed for GIMP and is now used to build the GNOME desktop. It is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License LGPL. The cross platform toolkit for creating graphical interfaces has added new APIs including GtkOrientable and GtkActivatable which pertain to various orientation-related functions and action-proxy interaction.

The release includes changes to GtkEntry, GtkScale and GTKStatusIcon, while still maintaining source and binary compatibility with GTK+ 2.14. The file chooser has been updated to optionally show file sizes and mount volumes when necessary. Keyboard shortcut handling has been changed due to complaints about the way GTK+ handled multiple keyboard layouts for international support. Now GTK+ only uses keys from other groups that are not present in the current group.

Version 2.16.0 is available to download now. More details about the release can be found in the release notes and the installation guide.
