Gabe Newell and Eben Upton to keynote LinuxCon
Valve Software boss Gabe Newell and Raspberry Pi Foundation founder Eben Upton have been announced as keynote speakers for the Linux Foundation's LinuxCon and Cloud Open North America conferences. The two events will take place in New Orleans, Louisiana from 16 to 18 September. Newell and Upton will be joining Jonathan Bryce of the OpenStack Foundation, HP Labs Director Martin Fink, and representatives from Intel and Wired Magazine on stage as keynote speakers. The popular Linux Kernel Panel, which features leading kernel developers and maintainers discussing the future of the open source operating system, will also be back.
Both Valve Software and the Raspberry Pi Foundation have captured the imagination of the Linux community over the last year: Valve by launching its game distribution platform Steam on the platform and the Raspberry Pi Foundation by bringing a small, cheap computer running Linux to a large number of customers. Linux Foundation Executive Director Jim Zemlin underlined this by saying: "This year’s LinuxCon and CloudOpen speakers really represent the most visionary thinkers in software today. These people are defining the future of software development for Linux, cloud computing, mobile platforms and more."
Visitors can enter both the LinuxCon and CloudOpen events with one ticket. Registration for both events is now open on the Linux Foundation's web site (LinuxCon, CloudOpen). Visitors who register by 10 May will be able to benefit from the early registration discount and can purchase a ticket for $475 instead of the standard fee of $575. After 28 July, a late fee of $675 applies; students can attend for $150.
