Google Summer of Code 2010: Mentoring organisations announced

GSoC 2010 Logo Google has published a list of the accepted mentoring organisations for this year's Google Summer of Code (GSoC) event. Each year Google seeks mentors from the FLOSS community to take part in it's annual GSoC, an event that takes place over the period of three months.

The GSoC contests offer university students stipends to write and develop code for various open source projects. Accepted mentors include the Debian Project and the KDE Project, both of which are already seeking project ideas. AbiWord, FFmpeg, Facebook, the GNU Compiler Collection, the LXDE Foundation, Mozilla and Ubuntu are all among the other accepted organisations.

During last year's event, just under 2,000 mentors from over 60 countries participated and over 85% of the 1,000 student participants passed their final evaluations. Overall, the students worked to improve the code bases of 150 projects, ranging from Wikimedia to Eclipse and openSUSE.
