Google Web Toolkit 2.3 arrives
Google has announced new versions of its Google Web Toolkit (GWT) and Google Plugin for Eclipse (GPE). Version 2.3 of GWT, a Java-based open source development framework for Ajax applications, brings improvements in support for the latest version of Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) and associated HTML5 features, including the ability to access Web Storage allowing local storage of data by web applications.
In the latest version of the Google Plugin for Eclipse there are direct links to the APIs for numerous Google services, such as Calendar, Maps, and Docs; from within Eclipse, it is now possible to browse through the increasing number of Google APIs, highlight a project and then select it. The release notes explain that the new GPE makes the import of Google-hosted projects into Eclipse "very easy"; a few steps in the new import wizard loads a project into the workspace. The new version of the plugin also adds single sign-on support for Google account credentials: this allows users with Google Account credentials to sign in once, and then "deploy to App Engine, add APIs, and import projects from Project Hosting as many times as necessary."
Further information can be found in a post on the Google Web Toolkit Blog. Google Web Toolkit 2.3 is available to download from the project's Google Code page and is licensed under version 2.0 of the Apache licence.
