Griffon, the Grails desktop counterpart, hits version 1.0

Griffon logo Griffon 1.0, an application framework for desktop applications written in Groovy, has been released after nearly four years of development. Designed for the creation of rich client applications running on the Java Virtual Machine, it uses the ideas and style of Groovy's Grails framework, such as the "Convention over Configuration" paradigm, and makes use of Hibernate and Spring.

It is also inspired by the Swing Application Framework, its simple application life cycle and event publishing. Griffon's developers say that Grails developers "should feel right at home". The framework is also extensible using plugins for Swing components such as Swingx, Jide and MacWidgets, persistence plugins such as DataSource, Hibernate and GSQL, and, 3D graphics and animation support via JOGL, LWJGL and Processing plugins. There is also support for UI toolkits such as JavaFX and SWT.

Griffon 1.0 is available to download as source, binary or installer along with release notes. Griffon is published under the Apache Licence 2.0.
