Gutenprint 5.2.8 improves support for Canon printers
The developers of Gutenprint have released version 5.2.8 of the collection of printer drivers for Linux and Mac OS X. The new version includes support for new printers from Canon and Epson and improvements to already included drivers.
With the new drivers, the performance of many Canon printers has been improved and most models will now be able to do borderless printing – which is an important feature for printing digital photos. For Canon BJC and Pixma printers, configuration options can now be combined and used in conjunction with each other (something that often failed in older versions of Gutenprint).
More information on the new features can be found in the NEWS file for Gutenprint 5.2.8 which is available from the project's Sourceforge page.
Gutenprint, which started its life as Gimp-Print, supports over 1,600 different printers and can be used with printing systems such as CUPS, lpr and LPRng. Many of these drivers rival the official vendor-supplied drivers in print quality. A detailed list of all supported printer models can be found on the project's web site.
