HP begins beta of OpenStack-based services
HP has announced that it is opening a private beta programme of HP Cloud Services which will offer Cloud Compute and Cloud Object Storage systems. These services are based on OpenStack's Compute (Nova) and Object Storage (Swift) technology. The announcement marks HP's first public implementation of OpenStack since it joined the open source cloud group in July.
Users wishing to take part in the private beta can apply for access at www.hpcloud.com. Whether this delivery of services based on OpenStack will see code contributions from HP to the OpenStack project is unclear. Red Hat has recently been reported as critical of OpenStack for being dominated by RackSpace development work, but its own cloud offering, Aeolus, is currently dominated by Red Hat engineers.
