IPCop's VPN and firewall Linux updated

IPCop logo The newly released IPCop 2.0 Linux firewall distribution updates the kernel to version 2.6.32, adds hardware support for Cobalt, Sparc and PPC systems and includes a new installer that assists users with such tasks as setting up a network. The developers have also revised the user interface: for example, the system menu has a new scheduler for time-based actions, the web proxy menu includes more advanced settings, and the DHCP server menu has been simplified.

The developers also have restructured the firewall's installation process – users can find details of all the changes in the comprehensive online manual. IPCop 2.0 has switched to using dnsmasq 2.57 as its DHCP server, while OpenVPN 2.2.1, which gives IPCop users an alternative to IPsec when establishing VPNs, has been added. Previously included in older versions, the Snort intrusion detection system has been removed and will become available as an add-on.

IPCop 2.0.0 images are available to download from the project's Sourceforge site. IPCop is distributed under the terms of the GNU GPL.
