IRC daemon ngIRCd now at release 19
The open source IRC (Internet Relay Chat) server ngIRCd has been updated to version 19. The IRC server is one of the easiest IRC servers to set up, with a clean configuration file, support for IPv6 and SSL, and active development. Last updated in July 2011, the IRC server has had a number of enhancements including the addition of support for GLINE and KLINE commands for banning users either on IRC networks or locally, while a new channel exception list allows operators to allow users to join even when a ban would block them.
Users can now set mode "C", which means that other IRC users can only send them notices and private messages when they are both on the same channel; this should prevent users being flooded by unknown users who haven't joined a channel. The preliminary support of Anope IRC services, added last year, has been updated and now only supports Anope 1.9.6, the current development version. Anope provides NickServ, ChanServ, MemoServ and other services which can support an IRC network.
Full details of all the changes in version 19 are available in the NEWS file and change log for the new release. The GPLv2 licensed ngIRCd's source code is available to download along with packaged versions for Amiga, Linux (Arch, Debian, Fedora, Gentoo, openSUSE and Ubuntu), Fink, FreeBSD and Mac Ports.
