Icecream 1.0 speeds up compilation process

Ice Cream After ten years of development and use, openSUSE's Icecream project has now reached version 1.0. The tool was created as an extension of distcc, a client-server tool for distributing compilation processes across Linux systems. Unlike distcc, however, Icecream includes a central server that will send parallel data or tasks to the fastest available computer. This is designed to speed up the compilation process.

A new feature added since the previous version, 0.9.7, is support for the Clang compiler and its plugins. Previously, Icecream only worked cleanly with the GCC. The developers have also fixed various bugs.

While the project used to be available in the KDE project's Subversion repository, Icecream version 1.0 has been given a new home on GitHub. This move is designed by the developers to address the misconception that Icecream is only designed to work with the KDE desktop environment. Icecream is licensed under the GPLv2.
