JBoss 7 AS now fully certified for Java EE 6
Red Hat has officially achieved "Java EE 6 Full Profile" (Java Enterprise Edition) certification for version 7.1 of the JBoss Application Server. This follows on from the developers' announcement last summer, in which they said that they planned to obtain full Enterprise Java certification for JBoss 7 in early 2012. Back then, the application server only achieved certification for the "Java EE 6 Web Profile", which combines technologies that are used in typical Java web applications.
Like its predecessor, the new version focuses on improving performance. For example, the application server's default profile can be booted in just over two seconds on an ordinary laptop. According to the announcement, this profile already activates two thirds of all services. However, there seems to be room for further improvement, as JBoss developer Dimitris Andreadis believes that sub-second start-up times are achievable. Since version 7.0.2, which was released last September, the developers have tackled almost 1,500 new or existing tasks; details can be found in the release notes.
One other major change with AS 7.1 is that remote access requires secure authentication by default, for management and remote application protocols. An article on the JBoss wiki explains the full impact of this change and how to use the simplified security management.
JBoss 7.1 is available to download and is licensed under the LGPL.
