JBoss Developer Framework launched
Red Hat has launched version 1.0 of the JBoss Developer Framework (JDF), a collection of tools, examples and documentation to help interested developers create applications for the open source middleware platform. The first iteration of JDF is focused on education and making it simple to start developing software on JBoss.
The framework is made up of four components: Quickstarts are templates for small applications that each teach the developer one JBoss API at a time, while an example application called TicketMonster shows how to write a fully fledged web application that runs on JBoss; JDF also includes migration tutorials for individuals looking to move to JBoss from another platform like Seam 2, Spring or Java EE 5, and finally, the framework includes Maven BOM files to help with dependency management for projects.
According to Red Hat, the next version of the JBoss Developer Framework will add documentation and examples for other technologies such as Deltaspike and Aerogear. The developers do not plan to fork these projects but will recommend a version to use and supply Maven BOMs for it.
