KDE 3.5 fork Trinity updated

One year since the last update, the Trinity Project has released version 3.5.13 of its desktop environment. Trinity is a fork of the last stable snapshot of the 3.5.x branch of the K Desktop Environment (KDE), KDE 3.5.10 from August 2008, that has been enhanced with additional features and is intended to be compatible with more recent hardware.

Trinity 3.5.13 includes "significant enhancements" that improve the desktop's overall security, GTK application support and usability. A new "Monitor and Display" control centre module has been added, and the GTK Qt theme engine has been updated to better display, for example, tabs, checkboxes and menu backgrounds. Other changes include the addition of a built-in TDE X11 composer, updated libraries, further Trinity rebranding and fixes for a number of bugs. Several new programs, including kbookreader, KMyMoney and KStreamRipper, have also been added to the software suite.

Source: trinitydesktop.org According to lead developer Timothy Pearson, users should upgrade from KDE 3.5.10 to the new release of Trinity, as it is "faster, more secure, and far more feature rich than 3.5.10 ever was", noting that, "It incorporates the latest patches from multiple KDE enhancement projects, such as openSUSE, Chakra, and Ubuntu."

Version 3.5.13 of the Trinity desktop environment is available to download from the project's site. Installation instructions for Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, RedHat and Slackware are provided.

KDE 4.0 was released in January 2008; the current stable branch is KDE SC 4.7 from mid-2011.
