KDE Telepathy 0.4 supports audio and video calls

With the new version, users can now make audio and video calls using GTalk/XMPP
Source: KDE Version 0.4 of the open source Telepathy Instant Messaging (IM) client for KDE Workspaces is now available. Developed by KDE's Real-Time Communication and Collaboration (RTCC) project, the IM suite uses the Telepathy Framework and includes support for services such as Google Talk and Facebook chat.

One of the most notable features in the new release is the introduction of support for making audio and video calls. Telepathy 0.4 currently supports video calls over Google Talk (Gtalk), which uses XMPP (Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol). The developers note that, as this is the first version to ship with calling support, "there might be some bugs".

Source: KDE A chat history browser has been added so that users can view their previous chat histories – for the feature to work, telepathy-logger and telepathy-logger-qt must be installed. In a future release, the development team plan to add support for importing logs from the Kopete instant messenger application.

The update better integrates with KDE's Plasma desktop and adds two new Plasmoids (KDE's term for embeddable desktop applications): the first of these is a simple contact list, while the other is a quick chat plasmoid. The update also fixes more than 100 bugs, 17 of which were problems that caused the application to crash.
