KDE's Dolphin file manager needs additional hands

Frank Reininghaus, the new maintainer of KDE's Dolphin file manager has put out a call for contributors to the project. The original creator of Dolphin, Peter Penz, stepped down from leadership of the project last month and Reininghaus sees involving new developers with the project as one of his most important tasks.

According to his blog post, Reininghaus is currently the only person working on the file manager. To change this, he plans to organise bug triaging sessions to clean up the existing open issues in the hope that this will make it easier for new contributors to join the project. He also encourages new contributors to make these sessions a starting point for their involvement with the project: "I think that participating in a joint bug triaging session is a nice way to start contributing to a free software project."

The next version, 2.1, of Dolphin – the default file manager in the KDE Software Compilation – is expected to be released as part of the KDE SC 4.9 release in August. The software can be considered one of the cornerstones of the KDE desktop and has been an integral part of it since the initial release of KDE 4.
