LLVM seeks new code owners

The planned branching of the code for version 3.2 of the LLVM (Low Level Virtual Machine) compiler infrastructure has been completed on schedule. From now on, enhancements still needing to be moved to the new branch can only be added with the approval of the relevant maintainer.

However, as these maintainers are currently spread somewhat thin, project lead Chris Lattner used his keynote at the recent LLVM Developers' Conference to call on his fellow coders at the project to take on more responsibility and to become code owners. There have already been some responses, but some clarification of how much knowledge of the code is needed and similar issues is still required. Interested developers can follow the discussion on the LLVM developers mailing list.

The first release candidate of LLVM 3.2 is expected to be released sometime this week. A revised version should follow at the end of this month, with LLVM 3.2 scheduled for completion in mid-December.
