Lazarus 1.0: free cross-platform Pascal IDE
After working on the 0.9.x branch for more than seven years, the Lazarus Project development team has announced that it has reached the milestone of releasing of version 1.0 of its open source visual programming environment for Free (FPK) Pascal. Lazarus is a cross-platform integrated development environment (IDE) for rapid application development (RAD) for Pascal and Object Pascal developers that was inspired by the Delphi IDE (formerly Borland, now Embarcadero Technologies). It supports several processor architectures including x86, x64, PowerPC, ARM, and operating systems such as Linux, FreeBSD, Windows and Mac OS X.
Lazarus 1.0 brings various changes to the IDE's editor and debugger, and adds support for exporting to HTML. It includes the current 2.6.0 release of the Free Pascal compiler (FPC) and a new LazFreeType library for text rendering, which is written in Pascal. The new version also includes updates to the Lazarus Component Library (LCL) which is modelled after Delphi 6's Visual Component Library (VCL). More details about the 1.0 release, including a full list of changes, can be found in the release notes and updated documentation, while the Lazarus FAQ and History page provide further information about the project itself.
Lazarus 1.0 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X, FreeBSD and Linux from the project's SourceForge page. Sources for different parts of Lazarus are made available under different open source licenses including the GPL, LGPL, MPL and a modified version of the LGPL.
