LibreOffice 3.5.5 update improves stability
Six weeks after the previous 3.5.4 update arrived, The Document Foundation has released version 3.5.5 of LibreOffice. This fifth maintenance update to the 3.5.x branch of the open source office suite adds no new features, instead it focuses on fixing nearly 90 bugs.
According to its developers, LibreOffice 3.5.5 features various minor improvements to the Calc spreadsheet program and the Impress presentation manager, and should improve the software's overall stability. Other changes include enhancements to import and export of third-party fonts, and fixes for 13 problems that could have caused the productivity suite to crash when, for example, exporting to RTF, reading Visio files and saving a document with track-changes enabled. All users are advised to upgrade.
Further details about the update, including a full list of fixes and changes, can be found in the RC1, RC2 and RC3 change logs; at the time of writing, the release notes have yet to be updated. LibreOffice 3.5.5 can be downloaded for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux from the project's site and is licensed under the LGPLv3. The project's next major release, LibreOffice 3.6, is currently in development and is expected to arrive "within the next few weeks".
