LibreOffice 4.0.1 delivers Android remote for all

The Document Foundation has announced the release of LibreOffice 4.0.1, the first maintenance and bug fix release for LibreOffice 4.0, which arrived just under a month ago. The new version fixes over a hundred bugs and also sees an update of the Impress Remote in Google's Play store.

The Impress Remote, which was initially released with LibreOffice 4.0, but only worked with selected Linux versions of LibreOffice, now works with all LibreOffice releases (Windows, Mac OS X and Linux). The remote allows users to control the suite's presentation software from their Android devices. Instructions how to use the remote can be found in The Document Foundation's wiki.

Bug fixes include corrections to various crashing bugs, incorrectly formatted XY-diagrams, corrupted file exports and incorrect file import, a slow about dialog and problems loading Illustrator SVG images, to name but a few. Although the bug fixes in LibreOffice 4.0.1 should make this release more reliable, The Document Foundation nonetheless recommends LibreOffice 3.6.5 for corporate environments as it is "more solid and stable".

LibreOffice 4.0.1 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux from the project's web site. Detailed listings of all bug fixes are available in the release notes for RC1 and RC2 of the final release. A "Getting Started with LibreOffice 4.0" guide is available in ODT and PDF form to help new users get accustomed to changes introduced since the 3.x version of the software.
