LibreOffice 4.0.3 now Gatekeeper compliant
The Document Foundation has announced the release of LibreOffice 4.0.3, the third maintenance release of the current 4.0 series. The new version brings a number of bug fixes to the open source office suite and the binaries for Mac OS X are now signed by the Foundation and will pass the operating system's Gatekeeper security system without user intervention.
During the development of the latest version, the LibreOffice contributors have also spent time improving the QA part of the release process. Developer Markus Mohrhard has written a Python script that automatically imports almost 25,000 different documents and checks whether LibreOffice crashes in the process. The developers are using this script to test the office suite's importing feature and plan to regularly test new builds against problematic documents that have been submitted by users and are known to have caused crashes in the past. To make it easier to install parallel versions of LibreOffice for testing purposes without using the command line on Windows systems, Florian Reisinger has updated the LibreOffice Server Install GUI, which can be downloaded from his web site.
LibreOffice 4.0.3 includes 100 bug fixes and improvements that were tested as part of three different release candidates. A detailed listing of all bug fixes and improvements is available in the release notes for the three development releases (RC1, RC2, RC3). Installers for Windows and Mac OS X, as well as RPM and .deb packages for Linux, are available from the LibreOffice download site. The software is licensed under the LGPLv3.
