Linux Mint 15 "Olivia" gets release candidate
Source: Linux Mint project
The Linux Mint developers have announced a release candidate for the upcoming version of their distribution, Linux Mint 15. The release, which is code-named "Olivia", is being built on Ubuntu 13.04 and is billed by Linux Mint founder Clement Lefebvre as "the most ambitious release since the start of the project."
Linux Mint 15 includes its own, custom, control centre application and a new screensaver tool written by the distribution's contributors. The screensaver allows users to leave messages on their locked screens while they are away from their computer. Olivia also includes Cinnamon 1.8, which introduces support for desklets and the Spices management component for applets, extensions and themes. Other features in the RC release include a themeable login screen and the new Software Sources and Driver Manager utilities.
Images for Linux Mint 15 RC are available with the Cinnamon and MATE desktops for both 32- and 64-bit systems. More information about the release is available in the accompanying notes and all new features are described in detail on the New features in Linux Mint 15 page. The H reminds users that the distribution is still a release candidate and should not be used for critical applications.
