LinuxCon Japan keynote speakers announced

The Linux Foundation has announced the keynote speakers for its LinuxCon Japan 2011 conference taking place from 1 to 3 June 2011 at the Pacifico Yokohama in Yokohama, Japan. The welcoming remarks will be presented by Noriaki Fukuyasu, Director at Linux Foundation Japan, and followed by a keynote from Linux creator Linus Torvalds, who will discuss the 20th anniversary of the Linux operating system.

The premier Linux conference in Asia will also include presentations by Jim Zemlin, Linux Foundation Executive Director; James Bottomley, Linux SCSI subsystem maintainer and Distinguished Engineer at Novell; and Mark Charlebois, Director of Open Source Strategy at Qualcomm Innovation Center (QuIC), who will discuss the role of Linux in mobile development and innovation.

Alan Clark, Senior Manager and Strategic Advisor for Strategic Initiatives at Novell, will share plans for SUSE following Novell's acquisition by Attachmate; Jon Corbet, LWN Editor and kernel developer, will discuss the latest happenings in the kernel community; and Dirk Hohndel, Chief Open Source and Linux Technologist at Intel, will look at the latest news from the Yocto Project. Linaro CTO David Rusling will talk about the reasons for creating Linaro, a software engineering company dedicated to enhancing open source for the next generation of always-connected, always-on computing.

The Foundation has confirmed that it will donate program funds to the relief efforts to help those affected by the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on 11 March. Special sessions and programs aimed at aiding Japan's relief effort will also take place. Discussing the conference, Amanda McPherson, VP of marketing and developer programs at The Linux Foundation, said: "We believe that one of the best ways to support the Japanese people in this time of crisis is to continue our programs there," adding, "We're also very happy to be able to donate funds to relief efforts in Japan."
