Mandriva Linux 2010 Spring Beta 1 released

The Mandriva developers have announced the availability of the first beta of what will become Mandriva Linux 2010 Spring (2010.1). The latest development release addresses a number of bugs found in the previous alpha releases and includes updates to the desktop components and included third-party software. The Beta 1 release will be followed by a second beta on the 23rd of April, after which a release candidate is scheduled for the 13th of May, 2010.

Mandriva Linux 2010 Spring Beta 1 is based on the 2.6.33.1 Linux kernel and features the latest GNOME 2.30.0 and KDE 4.4.2 desktop releases. Other changes include use of the Nouveau driver for NVIDIA graphics hardware and several KDE related updates, such as version 2.3.0 of the Amarok music player, KTorrent 4.0 Beta 1 and Digikam 1.2.0. Package updates include version 3.6.2 of Firefox (3.6.3 was released last Friday), OpenOffice.org 3.2, and version 1.91 of the Transmission BitTorrent Client. As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. The developers also suggest the beta be installed "clean" and not be used to upgrade existing Mandriva installations.

Mandriva 2010 Spring Beta 1 is available to download as a 32 or 64-bit DVD image file. The final release of Mandriva 2010 Spring is scheduled for release on June 3, 2010. Mandriva Linux is released under the GPL license. The latest stable release is Mandriva Linux 2010.0 from early November of 2009.
