The Canon EOS M is now supported and Samsung NX support is fixed in the new release. The ability to match images that look alike with similarity matching is now a standard feature.

Geotagging support adds the ability to manually tag images using GPX files from GPS trackers, matching to photos' stored timecodes or using EXIF location data; users can also see their photographs placed on a new map view. The Facebook exporter, as the name suggests, allows photographs to be sent to be displayed in a user's Facebook account.

Darktable 1.1's user interface adds the ability to group images, which, when active, displays only a single representative image for the group until the group is expanded. A command line interface has also been added, which currently allows for image export from within scripts. There are also improved tone and base user interfaces, less visually intrusive Bauhaus widgets in the UI, an updated colour correction module, and a live view for tethered shooting.

The darktable functionality now makes extensive use of edge-aware filters to reduce noise, halos and other artefacts. It adds conditional blending, magenta highlighting, and new interpolation modes that improve the sharpness of exported and resized darktable views.

The release also incorporates many bugfixes and a reworked "more plugins" widget, improved colour management and the ability to read jpg files embedded colour profiles. The darktable modules also mostly make use of a system's GPU support using OpenCL. The manual has been updated, but has yet to be translated to any of the twelve well supported languages that darktable is available in. Darktable has been packaged for Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE, Arch Linux, Funtoo/Gentoo and RHEL/Scientific Linux/CentOS 6. There is also an experimental port of darktable to Mac OS X.
