New JavaScript editor with jQuery support coming to NetBeans

Native jQuery support for the NetBeans code editor is under development

The developers of NetBeans are working on integrating native support for the JavaScript library jQuery into their open source IDE. Once the fruits of this effort land in the stable version of NetBeans, developers will be able to use code auto-completion for jQuery's methods and arguments and have access to the accompanying documentation right from the IDE's editor. The software will also be able to offer matching HTML tags and attributes and CSS elements.

The jQuery features are part of the ongoing work to create a new JavaScript editor for NetBeans. This new editor has been completely rewritten and is scheduled to be included in NetBeans 7.2 which should be released at the end of June. Since the new editor is being developed in its own branch, it is currently not included in the nightly builds of the program. Users who want to try the experimental branch can download a prototype version, however.

The NetBeans IDE is dual-licensed under the CDDL and GPLv2. The current stable version is NetBeans 7.1 which can be downloaded from the NetBeans web site.
