New drafts for HTML 5

Two new working drafts of the next specification for HTML have been published by HTML Working Group of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). One draft document deals with HTML 5 itself, while the second draft document looks at the difference between HTML 5 and HTML 4.

Compared the HTML 4, the new widely discussed and royalty free definition of HTML 5 allows for easier ways of implementing rich-content and Web applications. Many changes have been proposed by the WHATWG (Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group) and the specification is still under development between WHATWG and the W3C HTML Working Group.

Among the new elements of HTML 5 are a number of elements for better structuring of documents such as article,section, aside, footer and nav. The new audio and video elements are available for integration of multimedia content, while the new canvas element provides a rendering space for 2D graphics.

New type attributes such as autocomplete for the input element provide for more interactive applications. The aim with HTML 5 is to create a single standard which brings together HTML's custom syntax and XML syntax, as defined in XHTML1.
