New package format in Tiny Core Linux 4.3

The Core Project's "Team Tiny Core" has released version 4.3 of Tiny Core Linux, the lightweight modular Linux system. The new version introduces a "Self Contained Mountable applications" (SCM) package format for adding additional applications. Mountable applications take the file extension .scm and can be dynamically mounted and unmounted at runtime. They are managed using scmbrowser, a new graphical application.

Three different "cores" are available: the "Core" version is a mini-system weighing in at just 8 MB, which, as it includes only a command-line interface, is aimed at experienced users. "Tiny Core" (12 MB) has a graphical user interface implemented using FLTK/FLWM and is recommended for users who establish a network connection over a LAN. Users who want to use Wi-Fi are advised to use the "CorePlus" version – this is 64 MB in size and contains Wi-Fi drivers, seven Window Managers and support for non-US keyboards.

All three variants of Tiny Core Linux can be downloaded from the project's web site and an installation guide is provided. Tiny Core Linux is made available under the terms of the GPLv2 licence.
