Nightingale 1.12 comes with SoundCloud add-on
The latest release, version 1.12, of the open source media player Nightingale integrates better into the GNOME and Unity Linux desktops and is now able to use their audio menus and notification systems. The Nightingale community project was launched when the developers of the Songbird media player ended Linux support in 2010. Nightingale 1.12 is based on the current version (2.2.0) of Songbird.
The program is now able to import a variety of video formats such as OGV, 3GP, AVI, Divx, FLV, MOV, MP4, M4V, Webm and WMV. An error that occurred when trying to play and import files in Ubuntu was also fixed. The FolderSync add-on for synchronising the library with a defined directory was updated to version 3.0.4.3; the XULRunner runtime environment for Linux and Mac OS X is now at version 1.9.2.28.
A few new and ported add-ons are also available, some originally from Songbird and some native to Nightingale – one new add-on provides support for the social music sharing platform SoundCloud. The new version includes a number of bug fixes, ranging from cosmetic improvements to fixed crashing problems on Windows and Ubuntu. The change log lists all of the changes and updates.
Users who already have Nightingale 1.11.0 can use the integrated update function to get the latest version of the program; otherwise, Nightingale 1.12, which is released under the GPLv3, can be downloaded for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux from Sourceforge.
